Audience

This workshop is designed for Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Social Workers, and other allied health professionals who are new to the NDIS or want to refresh their knowledge. It is also suitable for Support Coordinators, Case Managers, and practice leaders seeking a clear, practical overview of how the scheme operates.

Course Description

Navigating the NDIS can be complex, particularly for clinicians new to the scheme. This workshop offers a structured and practical introduction to the NDIS framework, giving you a clear understanding of its purpose, structure, and guiding principles.

You will learn how eligibility and access are determined, the roles of participants and professionals within the system, and how NDIS funding is categorised and managed. The session also examines the “reasonable and necessary” criteria, the new Supports for Participants rule, service agreements, schedules of support, and the NDIS Price Guide.

By the end of this training, you will feel confident engaging with the NDIS and equipped to deliver services that align with its requirements. Whether you are starting your career, transitioning into NDIS practice from another sector, or supporting a team to work effectively within the scheme, this workshop provides the clarity and tools you need.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

• Describe the purpose and structure of the NDIS, including key legislation, rules, and operational guidelines.
• Identify eligibility criteria and access pathways for participants entering the scheme.
• Explain the roles of key stakeholders, including LACs, Support Coordinators, Plan Managers, and NDIA Planners.
• Interpret funding categories (Core, Capacity Building, Capital, and Transport) and understand how they can be managed.
• Apply the concept of “reasonable and necessary” and the new Supports for Participants rule to determine what can be funded.
• Understand the purpose and intent of NDIS service agreements and schedules of support.
• Navigate the NDIS Price Guide and its implications for service delivery and billing.
• Recognise the role and purpose of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

Sarah Collison

Sarah Collison is an Occupational Therapist and Director of Verve OT, specialising in assistive technology, home modifications, and complex functional assessments for NDIS participants. She leads a team of 55 occupational therapists across Sydney and the Blue Mountains, delivering in-home and community-based supports to NDIS participants.

As a trainer and presenter, Sarah has educated thousands of OTs across Australia, helping them confidently navigate the complexities of the NDIS. She is the founder of Verve OT Learning, an education hub that empowers OTs to provide high-quality, evidence-based services.

Sarah also facilitates the NDIS OT Community of Practice, a network of more than 12,500 OTs that fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and advocacy for improved participant outcomes. In addition, she co-hosts the OT Unplugged podcast, where she shares real conversations and practical insights to support OTs working within the NDIS.
