Audience

This workshop is designed for allied health professionals who use—or wish to integrate—standardised assessments into their practice. It is especially valuable for clinicians involved in NDIS functional capacity assessments, reporting, and funding submissions.

Course Description

Standardised assessments provide reliable, evidence-based data that strengthen clinical reasoning and reporting. This workshop gives clinicians a practical overview of widely used tools across disability, rehabilitation, mental health, and aged care contexts.

Participants will explore the purpose, processes, and applications of assessments such as Vineland-3, ABAS-3, WHODAS 2.0, Sensory Profile, CIQ-R, Barthel Index, AFLS, CANS, LSP-16, and Lawton’s IADL Scale. The session covers administration methods, scoring, interpretation, and reporting, and highlights how each tool aligns with NDIS expectations.

By the end of this training, you will be able to compare tools, select the most appropriate measure for client needs, and integrate findings into clear, accurate reports that support both funding applications and effective interventions.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

• Recognise the purpose and appropriate use of key standardised assessment tools in allied health practice.
• Identify the clinical populations and contexts where each tool is most relevant and reliable.
• Understand administration processes, including interviews, self-report, proxy, and Q-global platforms.
• Interpret scoring systems, subdomains, and reporting formats, and apply these to functional assessments.
• Integrate assessment findings into reports, funding applications, and recommendations aligned with professional and NDIS requirements.
• Compare the strengths and limitations of different tools to select the most appropriate option for each client.

Lisa Natale

Lisa Natale is an Occupational Therapist with 24 years of experience in clinical and training roles. She is the Director of ActivOT Clearview, where she has managed a private practice since 2013, and a casual lecturer at Flinders University in Occupational Therapy and Disability & Development Education.

Lisa provides peer training in assistive technology, home modifications, functional assessments, and report writing. She is recognised for her strong focus on processes, policies, and procedures that promote effective and ethical practice.
